Starsector is an expanded space simulator in which the player assumes the role of a ship captain and sets out to conquer the universe. The title does not impose specific goals and focuses on the freedom of gameplay. Fractal Softworks studio is responsible for production.

The world depicted in Starsector is extremely elaborate. The action of the game takes place in cycle 206 (year 3126) in the arm of Perseus, one of the four main arms of the Milky Way. It is one of many sectors that have been caught up in the endless resource war caused by being cut off from the rest of space.

In the distant past, humanity ruled a large part of the Milky Way. The whole of the empire, called the domain of man, was governed by a council, which was based on “Old Earth”. The territories under its control were divided into a number of sectors; smooth movement between them was possible through special gates. One day, all the gates in the sector were closed and all communication links to the human domain were severed. The lack of contact with the rest of the Empire combined with insufficient food resources resulted in the outbreak of war between the planets.

That is the reality of the player. He takes control of his spaceship and travels through the space sector of Perseus ‘ Arm. During his adventure, he may join a number of different factions: m.in. an organization called hegemony, claiming to be the spiritual successor of the human domain, or tri-Tachyon Corporation.

Starsector is a space simulator with a procedurally generated world that gives you almost unlimited freedom of exploration. The player sits at the helm of one of a number of ships available in the game, including cruisers, frigates, and fighter jets. Each has its own unique properties that influence the way the game is played. In addition, ships can be modified to the extent limited by their design. The inspection of the ships was very detailed, including many of the components installed. For example, disable transponders to avoid detection by enemies or activate crankshaft engines and expose yourself to attack by space pirates.
