At first glance, the gameplay does not differ much from what we are used to the classic series. Watching the action from the side, we rush to the right, jump from platform to platform, bypass numerous traps, chasms and other terrain obstacles, as well as eliminate opponents by jumping over their heads. Along the way, we gain a variety of power-ups that provide Mario and his friends with additional opportunities.
Among the latter, the so-called miraculous Flowers lead the way, which make the world around us change beyond recognition. For example, thanks to them, pipes can come to life, numerous adversaries can appear around, and our wards get a new look and skills, even if they change into… a heavy, spiky ball or an elephant fighting with opponents with a trumpet. All this affects the gameplay in unpredictable ways, introducing a breath of freshness into it.
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder can be played alone or in local co-op mode for up to four people.
