The discovery of ancient technology developed by the extinct protean race allowed humanity to fulfill the dreams of interstellar flights, and as a result-to find its place in the citadel, a gigantic space station that is the center of politics, trade and culture for the entire Milky Way.

The main character of the series is Commander Shepard. As the first human Spectre, or sworn protector of peace, the hero (or heroine, since we can choose the gender of the lead character) must thwart the plans of Saren, who not only betrayed the council sitting in the citadel, but also brought a threat to the entire galaxy. However, it quickly turns out that Saren is only a pawn, and the real mortal danger for the races inhabiting the Milky Way are the Reapers – an ancient race of machines that cyclically sterilize the galaxy from organic life. Shepard allies with the Cerberus organization to solve the mystery of the disappearance of entire human colonies on the outskirts of the Milky Way, and finds himself on the trail of a race of gatherers trying to speed up the impending invasion. The latter, on the other hand, we have the opportunity to see in the third part of the series, in which, in order to win (or at least trying to), Shepard must gain as many allies as possible. All in order to stand together with them to fight in the final battle, in which the survival of living beings inhabiting the Milky Way is at stake.

Mechanics and game modes

The engine of these productions are the extensive tasks pushing the plot forward, which are accompanied by numerous side missions. Commander Shepard is not doomed to a lonely crossing, because as he progresses, more comrades join him, with whom he can establish close relationships over time.

Our command center is Normandy, which is a futuristic spaceship, which we travel, choosing targets on the map of the Galaxy. In addition, it is a kind of mobile base on which we can move freely in breaks from performing tasks. Although in the second and third part of the series, after the levels located primarily on different planets, we move only on foot, in the first part of the series we also get a four-wheeled vehicle M35 Mako, which allows us to quickly explore vast areas of the terrain.

It is worth bearing in mind that the spectre does not live by fighting alone, and many problems can be solved not by force, but by talking; for this reason, from time to time, it is not combat skills that prove to be very useful, but the skills of a figure skater. In addition, we often make choices that affect not only the course of the story, but also the character of our character and its relationship with the team.
